Creating the Panorama - Retouching the Stitched Pict

The result of the stitching process is a single panoramic Pict file. Since Adobe Photoshop is such a widely used graphics editing program, the stitched Pict is saved automatically with that as the file type creator. There is no special file format to the stitched panoramic Pict - it can be edited just like any other Pict file. However, when creating QTVR panoramas, it is best to exercise care up front during image capture to reduce or eliminate the need to post-process the panoramic Pict itself.

If you must retouch the stitched Pict, keep the following in mind:

  • Use a 32-bit paint program to preserve maximum resolution and color quality
  • Use consistent touch ups for all panoramas if you're creating a sequence of panoramas that will later be linked together in a single scene
  • Straight lines in the view will no longer be rectilinear they are warped during the stitching process to accomodate the perspective corrections required to produce the panoramic cylinder
  • Always save your work as a new file
