Creating the Panorama - Converting the Panoramic Pict to QuickTime
This step converts the panoramic Pict into a QuickTime movie format. The Pict is sliced into a sequence of individual frames, or tiles, with each tile comprising one frame of the resulting QuickTime movie. As part of the conversion, the image is compressed to greatly reduce the file size of the panorama.
For example, a panoramic Pict created from medium-sized PhotoCD resolution images (768 x 512 pixels) results in a panoramic Pict between 5-8 MB in size. After dicing, the QuickTime movie will be only 1/10th-1/20th the size, depending on the compression codec and quality setting used.
Conversion to QuickTime
This conversion step is automatically performed in the QTVR Authoring Studio application.
