Choice of Lens and the Effect on Vertical Field of View

While it may seem obvious, it is important to note that the ability to pan vertically in the QTVR panorama is limited to the vertical field of view of the lens used to capture the source images. A wide angle lens will let you see a larger vertical field of view; however, it also gives the impression of "pushing" objects in the view farther away.

Wider angle lenses make objects appear smaller in the image but provide a greater vertical field of view

Similarly, a 35mm camera positioned in portrait orientation will produce images with greater vertical field of view than those from a camera in landscape orientation due to the aspect ratio of height to width on the captured image. The same holds true for the orientation of a video camera, owing to the 3:4 aspect ratio (height to width) of standard video frames.
